OREGON BUSINESS PEOPLE (1920)
Gathering of business folks in 1920

The Oregon business community gathered for a group photo when the World War I monument was erected in the village square in 1920.  A dedication ceremony took place later in June.

The first WWI monument in the United States is in the village of Oregon.  The granite shaft was constructed of polished Hurricane Island granite, preserved from the old Chicago City Hall.  It was erected by six teams of horses and several townsmen in 1920.
